Our client was a man came to Australia to study and who lived with an elderly lady for many years. After the elderly lady passed away, it was discovered that she left a will to her siblings and left nothing to our client. Our client claimed for a portion of her estate, having taken into account the amount of time he cared for her during his stay with her. The lady’s extended family resisted our client’s application. Ultimately, the judge found for our client, even though he was not in a relationship with the elderly lady and was not a family member or relative of the elderly lady.
